What is The Arc of Butler County?

The Arc of Butler is an organization of parents and advocates who are working together to make a difference for those with developmental and/or related disabilities.  The group holds informational meetings quarterly through the school year to assist families in learning more about services and activities available in Butler County, along with other related topics of interest.

Because there is so much to know and learn about services and activities to assist those with disabilities, becoming part of The Arc of Butler County can be very beneficial to families, caretakers and even professionals who work with those with special needs.  The knowledge one gains, along with the friendships and information members receive from others they meet in this organization plus the activities for their children, has made The Arc a very important part of their lives.

History of The Arc of Butler

The Arc of Butler was established in Butler County in 1954 and is a member of Arc of the United States.  It was originally known as the Association of Retarded Citizens (A.R.C.) and advocated for rights for those with mental retardation.  In time the name evolved to ‘Arc’ and now works to advocate and provide support and activities for both those with developmental and/or related disabilities (such as autism and cerebal palsy) and their families.  The Arc of Butler has a long and rich history of making a difference in the lives of those in Butler County with developmental disabilities.
